Marketing for free

When you are developing your new web site or product first thing you have to do is to do some kind of marketing so that the word about you and your web site gets out. There are many ways you can achieve good publicity but they always depend on what kind of product or service are you offering. If you are trying to get a lot of visitors to your new marketing blog like I do, the best thing you can do is to optimize it for search engines. Search engine optimization takes a lot of time and knowledge and if you don’t have a SEO experience you will have to pay someone to do it for you. Doing SEO can make your site very popular if you have something new and interesting to offer.

But what if you don’t have neither time or money to do SEO? The best thing you could do is to submit a press release on big press release sites. It will cost you some money depending on the popularity of chosen PR site but it costs less then SEO and it can get visitors if your press release is interesting. Still, press release is not free.

What could you do that doesn’t cost anything? If you ask me the best example of free marketing was done by Google when they just started with Gmail. There were no commercials, nothing. What they did instead was the invitation system. Couple of people got invitations and ability to spread a couple of those to their friends. The word about Gmail got out very fast because it was something new, something good and the most important part, it was something you can get “just like that”.

Offering free tools or materials like e-books on your new web site is certainly a good way to get new visitors, you just have to make sure a couple of your friends do a little bit of viral marketing by telling their other friends about your new tool. All the big marketing blogs and SEO related sites have great tools that you can use for free and being human makes you love free gifts.

To market your web site or product you just have to use your brain for a couple of minutes, gather four or five of your best friends and ask them what they think about your web site and how would they market it. I’m sure that you will find great ideas and some of them will be free.

Thank you for your time.
